Large Steam Turbine Crossover
Built for MHI Customer in Indonesia
The steam turbine is the very heart of any base load power generating
facility. These turbines generally have a high pressure turbine
and a low pressure turbine on the same shaft. Many times, there is
also an intermediate pressure turbine. A crossover expansion joint
carries the steam between the turbine sets. The crossover is every
bit as critical as the turbine because failure or leakage is cause for
immediate shutdown of the power plant.
The crossover must be made to very precise tolerances to insure
proper fit up in the field. The MHI crossovers were built with proven
methods to insure such fit up in the field. The Senior Flexonics
Pathway design also incorporated
a reinforced ply testable
bellows leak detection system.
The ply testable system
provides the opportunity to
sense a leak in a bellows and
continue safe operation without
loss of steam even if a leak is
detected.
