Refurbishment & Revamp

All existing expansion joints are candidates for our services and existing parts inventory may be used wherever technically possible in delivering the required solution. Refurbishment & revamp solutions work with the expansion joint still in the process line wherever possible, this has signifi cant advantages for the plant owner:

  • Reduced risk – minimum intervention, large heavy circumferential welds eliminated
  • Reduced cost – structures can be left in place, heavy lifting avoided, few key parts only required for the rebuild.
    • During critical turnarounds on major units SFP’s fi eld service capability will make a very signifi cant contribution to the project. The approach taken on ever project is tailored to the client’s precise needs and plant conditions.

In situ refurbishment of a joint - What we do

      • Remove covers and insulation
      • Constrain pipe / duct, block hangers
      • Remove hinges or other hardware
      • Detach bellows element / remove attach ment weld
      • Separate joint using existing freedom in the pipe system
      • Remove old bellows
      • Check and rework as necessary liner
      • Replace any internal insulation and seals
      • Insert new bellows – upgrade materials, 2-ply testable, all options can be used
      • Re-weld attachments
      • Reassemble hardware
      • Replace insulation, replace covers

      Saving

      Cutting out of old joint

Saves water jet costs, time and major disturbance to the piping. Very often getting the old joints out is very hard work, heavy cranes are needed to support the piping and get the parts in and out.

      All existing hardware
The hardware is very unlikely to be damaged, as it is a low temperature. It is expensive to reproduce.

Heavy welding to ageing, crack-prone pipe
When welding in a new joint a circumferential weld has to be made very close to the heat-affected-zone of the original weld. The pipe material once it has been in service is very prone to cracking which makes this re-weld risky.

Replacement of refractory in-side the pipe where cutting has taken place
It is impossible to remove the old joint without signifi cant damage to the lining of the pipe. By avoiding the cut the refractory work is avoided saving signifi cant time and cost.

Costs of all parts and shipments not absolutely needed
Only the key bellows and seal elements need be bought and shipped

      • Turnaround programme is reduced
      • Risks inherent in joint replacement are reduced – welding / cracking / fitting
      • Time expended by the main mechanical contractors reduced and specialists work on the critical components.
      • Additional parallel working is possible as work is removed form the mechanical contractors scope.
      • Hardware and shipping costs are dramatically reduced.

SFP have performed thousands of successful repairs in the fi eld all over the world saving process operators substantial cost and ensuring safe operation of their plant. Our experience and track record is unique, no other manufacturer can claim levels of success or fi eld competence approaching those of SFP.

SFP Site Service Solutions are deigned to reduce both cost and operational risk and ensure your maintenance investment delivers best value over many years of successful and trouble free operation.
